Bobbi Brown Lip & Cheek Pot Rouge – Coral Calypso
Finally! I have been meaning to write this article for ages! And the opening of the Bobbi Brown store in Delhi has finally given me the necessary push to share with you some Bobbi Brown products – to help you pick up stuff when you visit the outlet! By the way – I am soooooooooooo jealous!!!! Its not fair!! Sephora? In Delhi! Bobbi Brown? In Delhi!! Me? In Mumbai!! Hmmmpf! Anyways..
About a year back, I had no idea of existence ofBobbi Brown – person or cosmetics. And today it is my most loved brand!!! So, for people who do not know about Bobbi Brown, let me give you a little heads-up. Bobbi Brown is a makeup artist based in US. She started her own cosmetic line in 1991 with about 10 lipstick shades. The Company did so well that it was bought over by the Estee Lauder group in 1995.
Bobbi believes that “makeup is a way for a woman to look and feel like herself, only prettier and more confident.” Through Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Bobbi enables every woman to enhance her unique beauty. With straightforward, easy-to-use cosmetics in timeless hues, all formulated to create a smooth, natural, and healthy appearance.
So her makeup line is not about loud, OTT colors – its about enhancing what you have as an individual! I Love the philosophy and love her products!
Product Information:
So I bring for you today my first purchase from her line….Pot Rouge for Lip and Cheek – It is amongst Bobbi’s personal top 10.
Our best-selling, multi-tasking cream color just got even better. It’s now in a mirrored flip-top compact for on-the-spot application. Blend it on the apples of your cheeks for a just-pinched look. Blot it on your lips for a soft, stained finish. For drier skins, be sure to moisturize skin first. For an allover peachy glow.
In Bobbi’s own words: “My memories of my mother using her lipstick as blush inspired this product. Blend it on the apples of your cheek for a just pinched look and blot it on your lips for a soft, stained finish”
Incidentally, this was a trick taught to me by my colleague on a day when we were too hard-pressed for time to be bothered to refresh our makeup. A lipstick is all we would carry in our pocket!
Anyways, it seemed like a cool and convenient product and I had to try it. The only thing was, I wasn’t into beauty blogging so much at that time. Meaning, I would occassionaly (not voiciferously) check reveiws and never ever checked swatches to select a product (unlike now). So, I went to the duty free counter and asked for the product to be shown. The SA picked out a shade in pink and my response was if she could show me something in Coral (Oh My God!!! That word again!!! I know! But we do like Corals, don’t we!!!). She picked up Calypso Coral and handed it to me. I asked if I could see any other shade and she pretty much refused (in a sweet way), stating this is the one which sells the most – take it! And I took it! Blind buy! Not swatched. Not tried. Strangely, come to think of it, most of my Bobbi Brown purchases have been blind buys and I have not regretted them!
Price:
$26.00 or 3.8gms of product. I bought it for INR 1900-2000.
Pricey? Yes! But its BB (Bobbi Brown) – so worth it!
Packaging:
If you see Rati’s review of Cabo Coral from February 2011 – this product used to come in a pot, without mirror and about 11gms of the product. This has changed to the sleek, black (typical of Bobbi Brown products) compact type of casing with mirror. The case is enclosed in a black cardboard packaging.
The product quantity has diminished drastically from 11gms to 3.8gms, instead. However, the pricing has not changed favourably!
Product:
On the website, Coral Calypso is listed as a bright Coral. However, for our Indian skin tone – its not so bright. Rather it’s a pink-peach shade which gives a very natural, healthy look.It is extremely pigmented so a litlle product goes a long way. When you look at the swatch, please note that the color is fairly light, so you will not see a dark stain. However, for the color that it is, it is extremely pigmented.
The product is not soft gooey cream, rather it is a harder cream but its easy to pick up the product.
For the Cheeks – I prefer to use my fingers to warm the product and apply it. Initially, I was not getting the right way to apply the cream product. Then I came across Rati’s article on how to apply it – tap and blend with fingers – which I find very effective with this product.
The consistency is such that it is very easy to blend. It does not form splotches on your face if blending is not quick. Post application, it does not become Matte (like the MUFE Microfinifsh HD blush) – however, it is not shiny either. The sad part is that it does not stay put for too long – I am not sure whether it is the product to blame or my oily skin. It lasts for about 4 hours – which is great for a trip to the mall but not necessarily for office. With a good primer and base – the wear time can be increased by another 1-2 hours but no further. I Love the healthy natural looking sheen it gives my face. However, for ladies with darker skin tone, I would suggest to try before you buy.
On the Lips – On the lips it lasted for about 4-5hours but was drying. Lip balm was required. Initially, when I applied the product on my NC35 (in MAC) skin –I felt that the color pretty much washed me out. However, within a couple of minutes, the color darkened a little (I think with the warmth of the skin) and gave a healthy, slightly pinkinsh my-lips-but-better color stain.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Bobbi Brown Lip & Cheek Pot Rouge – Coral Calypso:
1. Lovely natural looking color – perfect for a healthy look on cheeks and lips.
2. Easy to apply
3. Easy to carry and do touchups since the product comes with a mirror.
4. Did not break me out
5. Did not accentuate my pores
6. It been with me for close to a year but has not shown any signs of drying.
7. Fabullous, sleek and convenient packaging
8. Good pigmentation
Cons of Bobbi Brown Lip & Cheek Pot Rouge – Coral Calypso:
1. The price is a con – close to 2K for 3.8gms product is definitely expensive!
2. Drying on the lips (I do have naturally dry lips and needed a lip balm.
Grande Finale:
IMBB Rating:
4.5
For me, it’s a fab product. I love the texture and the healthy look it gives my face. I may not rush out to pick up another shade because it is expensive. However, I do believe that even with 3.8gms, the product will last me a long time. And its so convenient to carry. If you have a reason to splurge and can go upto Saket, check this one out.
And do share with me whats on your wishlist from Bobbi Brown. If I have it with me, I will try to review it for you in time for you to make a decision!
Cheers! Have a great day!
