I thought there have been way too many lippy reviews and its time to shift gear a little. So I introduce you to one of my favorite cream eyeliners – YSL Effet Faux cil Crème d’Eyeliner (which in English just means Long-wear cream eyeliner) in shade Sea Black.

The story on this one is that I love a bit of colour on my eyes but I am still to master the art of blending powder eyeshadows and identifying what colour would work well for me. Whereas, I am most comforable with liners – especially liquid but I am getting comfortable with gel and cream ones too. Nothing adds brighteness to your face and drama to your look than coloured liner.

In comparison Bobbi Brown gel liner is $23.00 / INR 1540 for 3gms of product.

Packaging:

It comes in a typical glass pot with a black screw cap – quite similar to the Loreal Superliner pot. There is no moirror or brush with it.

Duty Free outlets stocking Bobbi Brown generally have special offer where you can get the Black Ink and Sepia Ink (a rich brown) gel liners with a free mini ultrafine eye liner brush!

There is 3gms of product there but you hardly need much for the application.

My Experience with YSL Effet Faux Cil Crème d’Eyeliner – Sea Black:

Colour: The colour “Sea Black” is deep indigo blue. It doesn’t have shimmer or sparkle but there is shine when it catches the light – which makes for the understated elegance rather then loud in your face colour and sparkle. Unlike the Bobbi Brown range, which goes for subtleness in colour, this one is vividly visible but still not loud.

Texture: As the name suggests, its got a creamy texture. It glides on smoothly, evenly and in one swipe of the brush, you get full opaque colour.

Pigmentation: As I mentioned, the colour is fully poaque in one swipe – you don’t need to go over and over to get colour or to make it deep. The colour in the pan is the clolour on the lids.

Staying power – I have super oily lids. However, this liner stays put. I have tested it for 8hours. There was a little fading of the colour, however, no smudging. No panda eyes. I have used it on my waterline – the staying power is lesser than on the lids.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of YSL Effet Faux Cil Crème d’Eyeliner – Sea Black:

1. Lovely color – intense dark blue which catches the light at certain angles.
2. Insanely pigmented – you don’t need to go over and over with the brush to apply it. One swipe is enough.
3. Creamy texture which glides on smoothly – Easy to apply
4. Smudge proof and waterproof – stays put till you decide to take it off!
5. Can be used to create thin line or smudged smokey eye effect. You can also use it as a base for blue smokey eyes. But I would advise a primer under this when used as over all lid colour.
6. I have had this for about 5months – does not show any sign of drying.
7. There is no fragrance – I don’t like fragrance in eye products!
8. Did not cause any irrirtaion to my sensitive eyes (even when applied to the lower waterline).
9. Lives up to its claim of being long wearing.

Cons of YSL Effet Faux Cil Crème d’Eyeliner – Sea Black:

1. Availability of YSL product – restricted to certain Shoppersstop outlets in India. It was not availble even in Thailand, except their On premise (at airport) duty free segment.

To be able to bring out the colour, I have swatched my Loreal Gel Superliner in Black alongside YSL Sea black

Now the Big question – Could I wear this to office? Answer is yes, maybe not everyday but once a week…sure! Even to a client or board meeting! I wish I had found it while I was working. Its one of the most astounding beautiful blue in eye makeup that I have come across.
