Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Grandest Grape

By Kulpreet Kaur

In my earlier review of Chubby Stick Intense in Heftiest Hibiscus, I mentioned what happened to the world with the launch of the Clinique Chubby Stick lip balm. While customers were raving about the Chubby sticks, the other half of the world – read “makeup companies” – went into a tizzy trying to recreate the Chubby magic with their own version of it – providing better color pigmentation but not always better texture or wear – Tarte, Revlon and our very own ColorBar and Lakme, even….all with varying amounts of success.

However, nothing really compares to the plushness of the product or packaging of these! If Chubby Stick lip balm was great, Chubby Stick Intense is waaaaay better!!

What Clinique says about the product:

Tempt lips with a soft cushion of colour that’s not quite sheer, not quite opaque-just the perfect happy medium. Loaded with mango and shea butters so lips feel comfortably soft and smooth. Eight vibrant shades in all.

Price: 1025/- for 3gms (same as the Original Chubby sticks).

My experience with Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Grandest Grape:

Sharing with you my review on Grandest Grape (08) with swatches, LOTD, FOTD.

This is a plumy berry shade. Though scary dark in the tube, in application, it is comparatively sheer providing a purple pink colour –bright enough to lift the face and provide a pop of color but not in-your-face loud! It has a glossy finish, minus the stickiness and glides on easily. The colour is fairly opaque with good pigmentation, I would say medium to full cover depending on the pigmentation of your lips! The intensity can be built with additional swipe. The glossiness fades over an hour, however the colour and hydration remain.

Clinique Chubby Stick Grand Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Grandest Grape Review

Without any lip-liner, the product lasted about 4.5-5 hours with a small meal in between. While on, it did not feather or bleed. My lips felt hydrated while product was on and even about an hour after I had taken it off. There was no stickiness, neither did you have the feeling of a heavy lip product being on. It faded evenly and upon fading, it left an even pink hue….the colour and intensity of this would be governed by your natural lip colour. For me, I have seen a lot of lipsticks leave a pinkish hue…which might be due to my natural lip color accentuating it.

In terms of shade, is this the most unique colour in the collection? Not really. The colour can be easily replicated by another brand. However, personally, I have always loved this shade and had it in my stash…might have something to do with the fact that this was the shade my boyfriend (now hubby) had gifted me (his first gift to me) – a Revlon lipstick. Those were the days when I was stuck on all things matte and all things brown and my favourite lip shade was a gothic coffee brown. I guess it was his way of saying, get over the witch look or you can ride on the back of a broom instead of my bike!! Men! I digress, the color – its not unique, however, will be flattering and easy to carry off for most skin tones. When I was picking this colour, I thought it might end up being a fall lippy. However, if you look at the FOTD, you see how it perks up the face and can be a lovely summer/spring colour!

Already listed the yays, so putting down the nays…

Cons of Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Grandest Grape:

• Cost – Rs 1000+ for 3gm of product.
• Availability – Available only though Clinique stores/kiosks

Please note, due to its soft texture, it can break…please store away from the Green House Effect!

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Heftiest Hibiscus

By Kulpreet Kaur

Clinique launched chubby stick lip balm sometime back – a lip balm in the shape of a twist up crayon…unique design, convenient, portable….and the world went into a frenzy! Half the world – went gaga over the packaging and gushed out of Clinique stores having spent 1000 odd rupees for a sheer lip balm. The other half looked on amazed…Rs 1000+ for a sheer coverage lip balm!! Are you kidding me? I belonged to the second category! Try as I might, I couldn’t wrap my head around spending 1K on something which in my mind could be achieved by spending 20% of that amount!

Clinique Chubby Stick Inten1 Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Heftiest Hibiscus Review

I Guess Clinique was listening! New Launch – Clinique Chubby Stick Intense! Chubby Stick in its new Avatar with 8 mouth-watering colours, providing sheer to medium coverage (as per Clinique)…providing fairly opaque coverage (as per me!).

What Clinique says about the product:

Tempt lips with a soft cushion of colour that’s not quite sheer, not quite opaque-just the perfect happy medium. Loaded with mango and shea butters so lips feel comfortably soft and smooth. Eight vibrant shades in all.

How to use:

2. Curviest Caramel
3. Mightiest Maraschino
4. Grandest Grape
5. Plushest Punch
6. Broadest Berry
7. Roomiest Rose
8. Heftiest Hibiscus

Finally, the cuteness, the portability, the balm effect of Chubby Stick and the colour of lipstick! YAY!! Now, the difficult decision was which one to buy? Shortlisted ..ahem…4 colours. Had to wait a while because Clinique store did not have testers!! Huh?? Finally, 4 out of the 8 testers arrived…so only 2 from my shortlisted ones were available for testing! Hmmmm. So I came back home doing my happy dance carrying Heftiest Hibiscus and Grandest Grape!

Packaging: The product is shaped like a “Chubby” crayon with a silver base and cap. The crayon itself is in the colour of the product. With a twist up mechanism, its easy to use, no sharpening required, meaning no wasted product.

Comes in the standard Green Clinique cardboard packaging.

My experience with Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Heftiest Hibiscus:

This is a red tinged orange, bright enough to lift the face and provide a pop of color but not in-your-face loud! It has a glossy finish, minus the stickiness and glides on easily. The colour is fairly opaque, I would say medium to full cover depending on the pigmentation of your lips! The glossy shine disappears in about an hour or so. Honestly, with the word “lip balm” one imagines the product to be sheer. But not this one. This is definitely Chubbiness intensified. The product has intense colour and good pigmentation in a single swipe. The intensity can be built with additional swipe.

It should suit most skin tones – be it light or dark without looking loud or over the top. It’s a fairly unique beautiful summer orange-red colour! A “must-have” from this range!

So, with Chubby Stick Intense, I finally got the color pay-off but did not really expect much in terms of staying power of the product. But here, I was pleasantly surprised! Without a lip-liner, the product lasted about 4 hours with a small snack in between. While on, it did not feather or bleed. My lips felt hydrated but there was no stickiness or feel of lip product on. There was a little transfer though. It faded evenly and upon fading, it left a red-orange hue….the colour and intensity of this would be governed by your natural lip colour. For me, I have seem a lot of lipsticks leave a pinkish hue…which might be my natural lip color coming through.

With a lip-liner as base, it pretty much stayed put through dinner and I had to take it off.

So now you know the pros already, I am not enumerating it again.

Cons of Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Heftiest Hibiscus:

• Cost – It is definitely not cheap!
• Availability – Available only though Clinique stores/kiosks
• Can Melt and break!!!! Mine did. The texture is so butter soft! But I cannot really blame the product for this…it’s the Delhi heat at fault! Note to self – Take better care of your lippies next time!! (I’m heartbroken! You think getting Plushest Punch may mend my heart??) ;)

My Rating: 4.5 / 5

NARS Taj Mahal Blush Review

Taj Mahal is well known across the world as a testament of true love. They say that the first sight of the beautiful monument makes you fall in love with it, its true, I have been lucky enough to experience its beauty and glory! However, what I intend to bring forth to you today is not “the epitome of love,” but something which has made people fall in love with it – its  namesake – Taj Mahal Blush from NARS.

NARS+Taj+Mahal+Blush+Review NARS Taj Mahal Blush Review

Product Description:

NARS – The ultimate authority in blush, NARS offers the industry’s most iconic shades for cheeks. Natural, healthy-looking color that immediately enlivens the complexion. A light application for even the highest intensity hues delivers a natural looking flush.

  • Silky texture in matte and shimmering shades.
  • Micronized powder ensures soft, blendable application.
  • Iconic NARS shades.

NARS Taj Mahal Blush 2 NARS Taj Mahal Blush Review

NARS Blush offers a range of translucent, natural shades, each with a subtle pink for natural blush undertone, created to highlight the complexion.

NARS truly needs no introduction. It is known for its blushes which have remarkable smoothness, texture, color pay-off with finely milled texture which blends like a dream!! NARS blushes invariably feature as the “Top Blush” of any and every beauty list – year on year.

NARS Taj Mahal Blush 3 NARS Taj Mahal Blush Review

Taj Mahal is an iconic blush from NARS. Everyone’s heard of NARs Orgasm – which may well be the most popular blush from the line. However, for women of color, Orgasm turns lack lustre. Step in – Taj Mahal.  As per NARS, it is a “blazing burnt orange with golden shimmer” – which describes it perfectly!

Price:

Rs. 1800 for 4.8 gm/USD $29

Packaging:

Comes in a black rubberised case which comes enclosed in a cardboard box. The case has a decent-sized mirror. However, there is no applicator with it. (which is okay, considering we anyway do not use these, so why bother!)

NARS Taj Mahal Blush 5 NARS Taj Mahal Blush Review

My Experience with NARS Taj Mahal Blush:

Well, for me, love at first sight – this was not! I remember seeing the product at Bangkok Duty Free and wondering – “That colour!! On cheeks?? You kidding me!!” And I conveniently forgot its existence. However, while doing some random searches, I came across FOTDs with TAJ MAHAL blush and started wondering…. hmmmm… should we? Honestly, I was not convinced that this was the color for me. See, when someone says “women of color”, “olive skin” – what come to mind is exotic looking Rihanna, Halle Berry, etc, I am a NC35 – am I a women of color? Or just something in between?? Confused! However, one fine day, while placing my order online, with a  lot of trepidation (I mean A LOT), I finally decided to order Taj Mahal.

NARS Taj Mahal Blush 6 NARS Taj Mahal Blush Review

Look at the color in the pan – SCARY!! It’s a burnt orange color! I opened this one and thought – “What did I order? Why did I order this!!”. Did a swatch on my finger and the reaction became worse, “Chalo, Rs. 1800/- down the drain!” But, hold on! Then, I tried it on my cheeks! Voila!! Awesome!! The smoothness, texture, colour intensity, etc., remains the same as for any NARS blush – but the color, its something else! Its warm and golden (not glittery) and orange, like sun-kissed cheeks.

NARS Taj Mahal Blush 7 NARS Taj Mahal Blush Review

Honestly, let’s face it, with the Indian skin tone, we are not very comfortable with the bronzed-look because one, we like the fair look instead of the tanned one and two, if used incorrectly, a bronzer might make our face look muddy. So for us, this is actually purrrrrrfect! The color ensures there is no muddiness and we still get the warmth on the face. No wonder they say, its amazing for “women of color!”

NARS Taj Mahal Blush 8 NARS Taj Mahal Blush Review

But I have to tell you a secret about this blush! You cannot really use a traditional blush brush to apply this. You could, but you would end up looking like a clown! The color pigmentation is so intense that a single swipe of the blush brush would still be way too much! So, what do we do? Use a fan brush! I use MAC184 (its MAC Pro brush) and a gentle swipe of this on the cheeks imparts the most amazing colour! Yes, I am in love! Not love at first sight but this one is for keeps and its perfect for the summer weather, to be paired with all the corals, peaches and tangerines that feature on our lips! It would go with any warm color on the lips.

It would definitely suit anyone with skin tone NC35 and above. Paler skin tones should try this before taking the plunge.

Is it an iconic shade?? It sure is. I do not see a dupe around for this one. You might get orange but not this burnt golden orange.

Pros of NARS Taj Mahal Blush:

  • Its NARS – finely milled, easily blendable,– the works!
  • Its super pigmented – so a little truly goes a long way!
  • Fabulous for the Indian skin tone – adding warmth and color in one single swipe.
  • Iconic color – not easily dupable.
  • Comes in a sturdy easy to carry packaging (with mirror).
  • Extremely long-lasting. The color stays put for good 8 hours.
  • The color works well for day and night both.

Cons of NARS Taj Mahal Blush:

  • The rubberized packaging is a dust and fingerprint magnet – and difficult to clean.
  • Availability in India is restricted to online sites or some local shop keeping imported goodies (and charging a bomb for it)!
  • You would need to invest in a fan brush!
  • No color indicator on the case to identify, identifiable only by name written on the flip side.  Unless you want to leave an imprint of the swatch on the case!! ;)

I know you would wonder why the price does not feature in the cons. Well, considering the quality of the product, you really are getting what you paid for. Also, you need such little amount of the product for each application that this would last you a lifetime.

The pros definitely outweigh the cons. If there is one blush you want to splurge on from NARS, let TAJ MAHAL be it, this summer!

Here is how it looks on my NC35 skin tone.

Kulpreet NARS Taj Mahal Blush Review

IMBB Rating:

4.9/5 (I cannot take away more than .10 from the product because of the packaging)!!

Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime Review

Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue,
Friends like you are very few!!

Remember this from your school days? Well, we grew up and realized that roses are no longer only red, they come in infinite shades of red, right from pale pink rose to intense maroon rose. The shade which caught my attention recently is from Bourjois Rouge Edition – #17 Rose Millesime.

Bourjois+Rouge+Edition+ Rose+Millesime+Reviews Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime Review

Ever since I saw these lipsticks, I had to have it! The price point was acting as a deterrent, but I finally gave in!

Bourjois has launched these in 18 shades ranging from nude colors to pinks and plummy tones and shades of red.

Product Description:

Tested and Approved by Fashion Editors! Shine Wrapped color with 10 hour hydration! Calling all Fashionista’s out there….the new lipstick is for you!  It’s ready to wear formula is enriched with ¼ of pure laque for radiant, glossy finish and orchid blossom extract so it glides onto the lips leaving them feeling smooth, hydrated and protected for up to 10 hours.  A “must-have” lipstick for every woman’s make-up bag. Tested and approved by fashion lovers.  Available in 18 fashionable shades from natural nudes to pretty pinks, colour-blocking corals and classic reds, there are so many to choose from! A shade for every outfit and style.  Stylish and sleek in design, it is the perfect fashion accessory for that trendsetting smile!

Bourjois+Rouge+Edition+Rose+Millesime+Review Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime Review

Packaging:

Obviously, it was the packaging which caught the eye. It’s a square tube, like most upscale brands like Estee Lauder, YSL, Bobbi Brown, etc. It’s entirely black with a glass bottom through which you can see the color of the lipstick. Fabulous design? Yes!! Not only is it eye catching but also practical to identify shade, in case you have more than one of these babies. Innovative – not really! Estee Lauder Pure color range has the same glass bottom design but with gold packaging.

Honestly, in terms of package design, the product looks fairly plush and is probably one of the best drugstore packaging I have come across in recent times – way better than the packaging of the newest products from Maybelline or Revlon.

So, for packaging we get 5 stars. But then we come to the price!

Price:

INR 775 for 3.5 gm.

Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime 2 Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime Review

What’s happening to the drugstore brands! It seems like everyone is vying against each other to reach the 1K mark for lipsticks  quickly! Frankly, it makes one think, I should just put in 200 more and pick up a MAC lipstick instead! And I think MAC might actually be monitoring this and thinking – okay, the customers are willing to shell big bucks for drugstore brands, I should charge more – because their latest line of Mineralize lipsticks have been priced at 1650 INR!!!! At that price, won’t I pick an Estee Lauder instead!! OMG – I hope Estee Lauder is not listening to this and hikes its prices further!!!! m0447 Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime Review

Anyway, I digress….

When it comes to lipsticks, we all buy them for different reasons – sometimes we like the shade, sometimes the packaging (ahem….yes, we do!! Why else would you shell out Rs. 800 for certain pop tints??), sometimes it is to match attire or even the season (read corals/fuchsia all summer!!), sometimes it is a new product (so we have to try), sometimes we just like to hoard! In my case, I already accept the desire for packaging but it was also the shade. I am so tired of reading and swatching the enumerable shades of coral and fuchsia this summer – its exhausting and getting a tad boring!

Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime 3 Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime Review

Rose Millesime is an English rose tinged pink – bright enough to light up the face but wearable enough that will not look out of place in a corporate office atmosphere either. Is it a unique color – yes, I think in the 18 shades put up by Bourjois, there are only 2-3 unique shades and this is definitely one of them.

The texture of the lipstick is light and smooth, almost like a balm. It glides on easily and there is no pull or drag. The coverage is medium but can be built to fully opaque. It has a light glossiness, not shimmer or sheen.

The disappointing part about the lipstick was its stay. When tried directly from the bullet and without any lip liner (for the benefit of the readers so you can see the real color) – it hardly stayed for 2-3 hours. It disappeared with my meal! Leaving NO stain! Well, this could be a pro for some and a con for others. Considering the shade, I guess it is understandable that there was no stain – the red shades in the range may leave a stain – however, I have not tested it, so cannot really comment.

Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime 4 Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime Review

When applied with a liner, the stay was slightly better and it pulled through till about 4 hours.

Let’s sum it up for you:

Pros of Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime:

  • Unique color.
  • Bright color which brightens the face – yet, easily wearable.
  • Will suit most skin tones and not look over the top.
  • Light, smooth, balm-like texture.
  • Easy application.
  • Fabulous packaging.
  • Hydrating on the lips. Lips felt soft for a couple of hours even post the lipstick disappearing (yeah….the 10-hour claim is bit of a stretch)!

Pink Lips Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime Review

Cons of Bourjois Rouge Edition – Rose Millesime:

  • The price point – considering it’s a drugstore brand.
  • Staying power.
  • Does not leave a stain (I kind of like my lipsticks to stick around for some time!)
  • Transfers – on every surface it comes in contact with!

Grande Finale:

IMBB Rating:

4/5

It’s definitely a product worth trying. Love the colors being offered, specially Rose Millesime – it’s a beautiful shade of pink (one which I did not have). However, do keep in mind the lasting power of the product – which can be extended by using a liner below the lipstick.

Well, if it does disappear from your lips, it gives you another chance to pull out this beautiful lipstick in public and reapply!!

So which shade interests you? Would you pick this up? Do share your views through comments.

Packaging:

As I mentioned in my previous review of Bourjois Rouge Edition – #17 Rose Millesime, I love the packaging of these lipsticks. It is so eye-catching and my eye was definitely caught! Yes, it is a copy…sorry….they look “inspired” by Estee Lauder Pure Color Collection. But honestly, “nakal ke liye bhi akal ki zaroorat hoti hai,” and Bourjois has done a fabulous jab with the square black body packaging with clear glass bottom which showcases the color of the particular lipstick.  It also is practical to identify shade, in case, like me, you have more than one of these babies.

The overall appearance of the product is extremely plush and is probably one of the best drugstore packaging available currently!
The cap secures nicely with a click and is definitely not going to come askrew accidently in your bag! So, go ahead and throw it in your bag. Come on ladies, I am kidding! Show some respect – don’t just throw it! At this price, I recommend you not to throw it!!

Coming to the price:

Price:

INR 955 for 3.5 gm.

Yes, you read that right!! Its INR 955!!!!!!!!!!! Random thoughts in mind:

  • Are you kidding me??!!!
  • But, I just bought one 4 days back at INR 775!
  • Won’t I put in 35 bucks and buy a MAC instead?
  • And I still bought it! What was I thinking??!!

Actually, I wasn’t thinking! Meaning, I just paid for the lipstick along with the rest of my shopping from Lifestyle and only later did I realize the price had gone up! Hmmmmpf! What was more disappointing for me was that I had selected this lipstick based on online swatches. I did not get to swatch it at the counter because they did not have a tester for this one. What was upsetting is that once I opened the lipstick at home, I saw swatch marks on the side of the bullet!! Disgusting! Anyway :(

So, BREAKING NEWS – the drugstore brands have reached the 1K mark for lipsticks….fairly quickly too!

About the Shade:

Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick – 18 Violine Strass 3 Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick – 18 Violine Strass Review

Violine Strass is a plummy violet shade. I don’t know what’s with me, I invariably end up buying 2 lipsticks from each collection and one will definitely be plummy! I keep telling myself, I will pick something red or brown (away from my pinks and plummy tones) but….You know the rest!

So, this one is a plummy violet with pink undertone. I personally love these shades and wear them the year round. However, for some, this might be a fall lipstick.  The color is bright but deep. It is not a unique color – though in the swatches I had seen online, the pink undertone seemed to be stronger, which is what I would have liked! However, on my lips, this looks like an easily dupable shade.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick – 18 Violine Strass 4 Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick – 18 Violine Strass Review

The texture of the lipstick is light and smooth, almost like a balm. It glides on easily and there is no pull or drag. The coverage for this shade was fairly opaque. It has a light glossiness, not shimmer or sheen – which lasts for about an hour and then fades off.

Unlike Rose Millesime, this color lasted about 4 hours on my lips – when applied directly, With lip liner, it easily stretched to 6 hours and the look was less glossy. With either application, it left a pink stain which lasted another couple of hours.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick – 18 Violine Strass 5 Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick – 18 Violine Strass Review

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick – 18 Violine Strass:

  • Easily wearable color.
  • Will suit most skin tones.
  • Light, smooth, balm-like texture.
  • Easy application.
  • Fabulous packaging.
  • Hydrating on the lips and lips felt soft for an hour or so post the lipstick disappearing (the 10- hour claim is definitely a stretch)!

  • The price point – considering it’s a drugstore brand – is ridiculous!
  • Transfers – on every surface it comes in contact with!

It’s a product worth trying but definitely not at the current price point! I would suggest to check whether it is still available in your area at the original price point and take a call, but for a color more unique than this one!

So, what do you feel about the current price hike, especially for lipsticks, of the drugstore brands? Would you pick this up? Do share your views through comments.

Have a great week!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate – No. 20 Review

Finally, I am out of hibernation.  I had been out of town with really bad network. Now back to base – which is Mumbai – and these rains! Not so long ago….I used to love this weather and getting wet in the rains, the ginger teas, the pakoras and then what happened? Well, I had kids! So, now rains mean runny nose, bad throats, nebulizations and sleepless nights! For people who don’t know what nebulization is (I didn’t) – wait till you have kids! But I refuse to let the rains get me down! So, I am going to perk up this damp dark day with bright hot pink lips from Rimmel!! Yes, I said I won’t do anymore drugstore lipsticks, but (there is always a but, right?) I happened to be in Parcos and saw these lasting finish lipsticks with Kate Moss’s seal of approval and well, had to buy it!

Wow!  Kate is back with her second Lipstick collection, all 5 shades were picked by Kate Moss herself and she even insisted on the shade numbers. These shades are so on trend for spring and summer and are sure to make you stand out in the crowd with your statement pout.

Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate 2 Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate – No. 20 Review

Price:

INR 215 for 4 gm, no its not a typo…..It is 215! Yes! Seriously!  It’s a steal!! Honestly, when did you last buy a lipstick at that price? Forget lipstick, would you get a lip liner at this price?

Packaging:

Its encased in a black tube with Kates’s signature on it and the Queen’s crown embossed on top of the case. At the bottom is the lipstick number in the colour of the lipstick – to help you identify the colour.  Packaging is nothing too fab – nothing to go ga-ga over. However, it is not bad either. The cap shuts close with a resounding click – which is re-assuring that it will not come loose.

Frankly, for this price – the packaging is great. It will not be fair of me to compare it to something which costs 1000 bucks but I repeat, it does not look cheap or tacky. Rather, you would love to take it out in public!

Product:

The texture of the lipstick is smooth and creamy – there is no shimmer, however, its not matte either. Its insanely pigmented! One swipe could be enough. However, since my lips were not prepped, I did have to swipe twice to get an even application.

Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate 3 Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate – No. 20 Review

The colour is a bright fuchsia pink – as you can see in the pictures.  The swatch on the hand is of 1 swipe and 3 swipes, respectively. Before you see the lip swatch on my NC-35 skin, I suggest you put on your glares because it is BRIGHT!!

Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate 4 Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate – No. 20 Review

In terms of the “lasting” part of the claim – strangely enough – it is lasting! It stayed on me for good 6 hours plus and when it faded it left a stain which lasted pretty much the whole day till I took it off. However, the fading was not very even. It does transfer a little but not as much as a balm-ish lipstick does.

Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate 5 Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate – No. 20 Review

I have fairly dry lips. The lipstick did not become matte and drying. Its not hydrating but it is not drying either – unlike my experience with Maybelline 14-Hour Super Stay which dried my lips so badly that I was on constant lip balm application for next 2 days! Also, the lipstick did not accentuate the fine lines of my lips.

All in all, an absolute steal at that price!

To sum it up:

Pros of Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate – No. 20:

  • Perfect hot lip colour for this season.
  • Truly long lasting.
  • Did not feather.
  • Does not dry the lips or accentuate fine lines.
  • Insanely pigmented.
  • Extremely easy on the pocket.
  • Great packaging.
  • Easy application.

Cons of Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate – No. 20:

  • The color might not be something which everyone can carry off – but there is a range of nudes also available. Also, there is a range of mattes available – which have 3 digit numbers – 103, 107, etc.
  • It has an awful sickeningly sweet smell! You do not notice it in the shop because you are buying it in Parcos and Parcos always smells divine thanks to all the perfumes it stocks. The smell does wear off but it is really sickening – and would be a bother to anyone who has a sensitive noise. Fortunately for me, I don’t, there have been incidents reported when certain dishes have burned on the burner before I got the whiff that something was amiss!! It’s a fabulous product, especially considering the price. I think, its a great buy, specially for college girls, etc who want to do hot pink but cannot really do MAC Impassioned and Girl About Town without breaking the bank – their piggy bank!  Also, its a great buy for someone who wants to try bold colours for the first time and may not be comfortable picking up an expensive lipstick, only to find that they don’t really wear it too often!  You must check the collection – its restricted in colours to reds, pinks and nudes but definitely worth a try! Come on, at INR 215, its an absolute steal! That’s as much as what you pay for a cup of coffee with your friend – no, not the one at the tapari but maybe Barista! Or what you pay nowadays for a movie ticket for yourself!

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate #22

Like I have said earlier, I find it very difficult to buy 1 lipstick – it always has to be 2! Actually, its been a trend through life – and not restricted to lipsticks. I go out to buy something, after the browsing and shortlisting phase, it always boils down to 2 products and I am never able to make up my mind. So invariably, the response is – lets take both! Hmmmmm….not a good habit, I know! Ask my hubby….he is fed up with this!

I digress, coming back to the product in hand….I have earlier revewed the HOT pink lipstick from this range – Lasting Finish by Kate #20. And here I bring to you #22. This one is a bright (again) blue based Red!

Packaging:

As I have entioned in my previous review, packaging is nothing too fab – but not bad either. The cap shuts close with a resounding click – which is re-assuring that it will not come loose….so easy to toss into the bag!

For this price, the packaging is fairly decent – it does not look cheap or tacky.

Product:

The texture of the lipstick is smooth and creamy – there is no shimmer, shine, however, its not matte either. This one again is insanely pigmented! One swipe is enough – however, it may not give you even application so you might need to go over a couple of times.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate 22 3 Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate #22

The colour is BRIGHT Blue Based red with a hint of pink – as you can see in the pics. It brightens the face and makes my teeth look white! (I like that!!) Considering the colour, application can be a little bit of an issue…meaning, it is RED! Any mistake in application is going to be glaringly visible. You might not get an even application with the tube and would ideally need to use a brush.

In terms of the “Lasting” part of the claim – it lasted for good 6 hours plus and when it faded it left a stain. However, the stain did not last very long… probably an hour tops! It does transfer a little but not as much as a balm-ish lipstick does.

I have fairly dry lips. The lipstick did not become matte and drying. Its not hydrating but it is not drying either and neither does accentuate the fine lines of my lips.

All in all, an absolute steal at that price!

To sum it up:

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate 22 1 Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate #22

Pros of Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate #22:

1. Nice Bright red – for people who are comfortable weraing bright colours
2. Fairly long lasting
3. Does not dry the lips or accentuate fine lines.
4. Insanely pigmented
5. Extremely easy on the pocket
6. Great packaging

Cons of Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate #22:

1. When I applied it from the tube, it feathered a little. However, when I applied with a brush, there was NO feathering. Using a lipliner would also ensure that there is no feathering.
2. Because of the color – application could be a bit of an issue. Its not something you can apply on the run.
3. The color might not be something which everyone can carry off – but there is a range of nudes also available.
4. It has an awful sickeningly sweet smell! You do not notice it in the shop cause you are buying it in Parcos. And Parcos is predominantly a perfume shop – so always smells divine. The smell does wear off but it is really sickening – and would be a bother to anyone who has a sensitive noise.
5. Availability of the product might be an issue.

It’s a nice product, especially consideirng the price. I do think, its a great buy, specially for women who shy away from reds but want to give it a try. At this price, you wouldn’t mind picking up sometyhing for trial or something which you may not use toooooo often.

Would I buy more from this collection – not really. I have picked a hot pink (no.20 – reviewed earlier) and this Red. The collection is fairly ristricted in colours to reds, pinks and nudes. So I am pretty much covered. However, at INR 215, its an absolute steal! And you must try!

Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush #1 Innuendo Review

I am back….its still pouring in Mumbai and the weather just keeps giving you a reason to look for brighter hues to brighten the day.

Make+Up+For+Ever+HD+Microfinish+Cream+Blush+1+Innuendo+Review Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush #1 Innuendo Review

By now, you know I love lipsticks- pinks, plums, reds and everything in between! What I also love is blushes! And for the longest time ever, I had wanted to try the MUFE HD Microfinish Liquid Blush.  The shade I had shortlisted was Quickie – nice coral pink shade, but thankfully, I saw Rati’s review and photos just in time to realize that it might be a tad too light for me and may end up washing me out.

Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush 1 Innuendo 2 Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush #1 Innuendo Review

So, I went in for the darkest shade they had – #1 Innuendo. Now, I don’t know the story behind it, but on MUFE site, the blush is now referred to as Cassis. Actually, like NARS, they too had weird names for this range of blushes – Innuendo, Walk-of-shame, Quickie, Caught-in-the-act, Skinny Dip, etc. But for some reason, the range has nice decent names on their website now and since the bottle doesn’t really have the name printed on it (only the number at the bottom), we can call it what we want!

Product Description:

What it is:

A cream blush that naturally sculpts and highlights the cheeks for a healthy glow.

Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush 1 Innuendo 3 Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush #1 Innuendo Review

What it does:

HD Microfinish Blush combines mattifying and reflecting powders to create a soft-focus effect for a radiant complexion. Its ultra-fine, second-skin texture blends seamlessly, imparting a healthy glow that’s hard not to notice.

What else you need to know:

Formulated with evaporating oils, HD Microfinish Blush has a long-lasting result. Dermatologist tested. Paraben free.

Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush 1 Innuendo 4 Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush #1 Innuendo Review

Price:

$26 for about 10 ml. (I picked it online for about INR 1600).

Packaging:

It’s a transparent bottle with built-in pump – like the MAC Prolongwear Concealer.  The bottle is plastic, so fairly easy to carry and travel with and is fall proof. The color is clearly visible and would be easy for you to identify – if you had more than one of these.

If you look at the bottle, its really really small – you can see the photo with a INR 5 coin with it for size reference. Couldn’t use a 1 or 2 rupee coin because their size keeps changing and they honestly, can’t be used for reference anymore!! But that’s another story.

My Take on Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush #1 Innuendo:

As described by MUFE on their site, it’s a vibrant plum. The product is INSANELY pigmented.  All you need is pin-size drop. If you have a pea-sized drop, its gonna be way too much. You could easily use the pea-sized drop to apply the blush to your cheeks and that of half a dozen friends of yours!

Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush 1 Innuendo 5 Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush #1 Innuendo Review

Apart from the fact that it has great pigmentation, the other reason that you need so little of it is also because of the color. It is extremely dark. Done incorrectly, you would definitely look like a clown. However, done correctly, it gives the faintest, most beautiful and most natural looking flush to my cheeks (I am NC35 in MAC) – almost like I just came from a jog (yeah, like that’s gonna happen!!)

Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush 1 Innuendo 6 Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush #1 Innuendo Review

The great thing about the blush is that though it is creamy, it dries out fairly quickly to a matte finish – which is great for my oily skin. You do need to work fast to blend it quickly and correctly else you end up with a splotch on your face.

Plum blush Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush #1 Innuendo Review

I had heard that the blush was extremely long lasting, however, on my oily skin, it lasted for about 6 hours (over primer and foundation). For people with normal/dry skin, the wear time should be longer.

So, coming back to the packaging, its really small and seems expensive for the amount of product, but considering how little of the product you actually need, the bottle could last you a lifetime and beyond, but here is my biggest grouse with the product – the bottle probably won’t last you too long! I am already halfway through in 6 months. Why? Because of the stupid pump!!

The pump dispenses out way too much product. No matter how I try to pump, it’s no good. I have the same problem with my MAC Prolongwear Concealer. However, with the concealer, I have figured a way around, I take out 1 pump of the concealer into a drumming jar and use it from there for practically the whole week, this ensures I don’t waste the product, but I cannot do the same with the blush – I tried but it failed because the product starts drying fairly quickly. So when you try it from the drumming jar, you will find the product has already become stiffer and is difficult to blend. By day 3 – its too hard to be of any use! This is such a let down!

So, let me sum it up for you:

Pros of Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush #1 Innuendo:

  • Excellent pigmentation – a little really goes a long way.
  • Good range of colors available.
  • Most beautiful, natural looking flush.
  • Matte finish post application.
  • Didn’t break me out.
  • Did not accentuate my pores.

Cons of Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Cream Blush #1 Innuendo:

  • The pump – its such a game spoiler!!
  • Little tricky to apply – firstly, because its a cream blush and more importantly, it’s a dark shade. So, you really have to blend it a lot….and fast. The first few (read 6) times, I ended up looking like a clown, which meant redo skincare and makeup from scratch!! Ouch!

IMBB Rating:

I would say a 4 on 5. Taking off a point for the dispenser, not really for the application issue because that can easily be taken care of by practice and by selecting a lighter shade.  The dispenser is both irritating and makes the product more expensive because it causes wastage. I wish they would do something about it!  So, have you come across a product which you love but then you are irritated by the packaging? Do share through your comments.

Clinique Long Last Lipstick – Runway Coral

I know summers are being taken over by the monsoons in India and you have pretty much had your fill of all things Coral but I have to share one more! I have been wanting to try (read buy) Clinique lipsticks for quite some time – found the packaging cute! But when I had seen the shade swatches online – didn’t really get attracted to any colour. Honestly, the colours looked a little “grandma” kinds!

Clinique longlast lipstick runway coral

However, a chance meeting with a coral beauty changed things for me! And I want to introduce this beauty to you!

Okay, now there is an official story about it and then there is an unofficial one from me.

The OFFICIAL Story:

The Product – Clinique Long Last Lipstick:

Longest wearing, soft shine formula. Keeps its just-applied look for hours. Wont feather, creep, stain or dry out.
Coverage: Moderate

Clinique long last lipstick runway coral 2 (3)

The Colour – Runway Coral:

“Direct from Fashion Week in NYC! Get the look – the the vibrant coral lip colour – created by Clinique’s Global Colour Artist, Jenna Menard, for Karen Walker’s Spring/Summer 2012 runway show. Here for a limited time.”

The Inspiration – “Karen wanted the models to look youthful and pretty with a sophisticated twist. So I kept the eye very simple, the cheeks healthy – and then went for a strong, vibrant lip. I chose bright coral because its less expected than red, and I went to the Clinique lab to create exactly the right shade. It worked with Karen’s entire collection as well as all the model’s skin tones.”

clinique lipstick

Bright and Bold:” A sophisticated lip is the perfect balance to the look’s youthful cheeks and eyes. I applied the color with the lip brush so the effect was very grown-up and precise, but the bright coral lips keep it playful.”

This was Summer/Spring 2012. Post the Fashion week, the product was made available to the US Market as an online exclusive. It was sold-out in a months time. And it continued to be talked (read demanded) in the beaty blogsphere. Net result, 2013, its back in the market – this time available as a permanent shade! That’s the power of the consumer….meaning you!! In US, it is being sold online and through Cliique counters. (By the way….Its already sold-out online). Fortunately for us, in India, the product is still available at Clinique counters/stores.

Now the Unofficial story – my purchase story – I had gone to the Clinique counter to pick up some more Chubby Sticks and was sold the story of this special “limited edition” colour available with them, of which only the last piece was available! Hmmmm…2 words buzzing in my brain – “LE” (Limited Edition) and Coral. I know you and me are sick of the word “Coral” but we do love it!! Don’t we?? When I bought this, I promised myself, this would be the last lipstick or atlrast the last coral lipstick that I buy for myself (…buy for myself this month???) ;) And then I came across some swatches of Maybelline ColorSensational Vivid Lipcolor and drooling for more corals already! “Spank!!” “Spank!!””

Clinique long last lipstick runway coral 2 (1)

Coming back to my story…as you guessed, I gave in! However, before picking up the lipstick, I checked with the SA if more pieces of the product would be available in other stores….Logic being, whats the point of reviewing a product if its not going to be available to buy! And she replied, “Oh! More pieces would be coming to us by next week.” Hmmmmmm….doesn’t sound like a limited edition. Anyeways, I liked the color, so I picked it. But I did take the details of the Estee Lauder PR person from Estee Lauder counter to reconfirm…NEWS FLASH – it is NOT limited edition. Its limited edition only for Clinique’s US website.

I don’t know what I hate more, an SA trying to be over-smart to sell a product or one which doesn’t have correct information!! Anyways!

Price:

$15.00 online on Clinique.com and already sold out!
Available at the Clinique counter for INR 1300 for 4gms

Packaging:

The Packaging is standard Clinique lipstick packaging – silver chrome ribbed cylindrical tube. It comes packed in the standard green box.I like the shiny silver packaging and find it very chic!

Product:

Runway Coral is a pink toned Coral shade. Initially, when the SA swatched it on my hand, it felt as if the color was a dupe of MAC Impassioned. So I quickly hopped across to MAC to swatch Impassioned against this. On closer Impassioned, they were nowhere similar except that they both do fall in the coral category.

However, when I wore it I realized that the texture of the product is extremely buttery (though I do not think it will melt as easily as the Chubby Stick Intense or Revlon lip butters do) and soft on application. Meaning, though it is pigmented, you do have to put 2-3 strips and build it up to the color of the tube. The feel of the lipstick is extremely soft and hydrating when applied. However, as time goes by, it starts feeling matte and ended with a little drying feeling (Pls note, I have extremely dry lips). It has a light glossiness which fades in about an hour. There is no tug or pull while applying it.

Clinique long last lipstick runway coral 2 (2)

If you read the International blogosphere and in Jenna’s own words – this is supposed to be fairly loud (she mentions it as being a alternative to red lips). However, for the Indian skintone, this is definitely NOT bold or Neonish. On the contrary, I think it is an excellent alternative for people who would like a bright coral but not something as bold or OTT as MAC Impassioned or Estee Lauder Coral Fantasy (though both of the later colrs are fabolous in their own right and my personal favorites!)

Coming to the Long Last claim – It lasts for about 6 hours (with one snack in between) leaving behind a very faint stain. I do feel the need to apply lip balm post using this.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Clinique Long Last Lipstick – Runway Coral:

1. Easily wearable color and extremely flattering colour. Perfect for the summers – without being neonish or OTT
2. Instantly brightens up the face.
3. Will suit most skin tones.
4. Easy application.
5. Fabulous and sturdy packaging – it would easily withstand a romp in your bag!
6. Good pigmentation.
7. It did not feather or accentuate the fine lines of my lips (even when it had become dry).

On NC 35 skin tone:

coral lips

Cons of Clinique Long Last Lipstick – Runway Coral:

1. The price might be a con here but the product is 4gms as compared to 3-3.2gms of others.
2. Slightly drying post 5hours….on my dry lips, I did need a lip balm.

Since its Clinique, the product does not have any fragrance. I have not listed this above because for some it’s a pro, for others it’s a con – its a personal preference!

Grande Finale:

IMBB Rating – 4/5
It’s a product worth trying especially if you love corals or want to try a wearable coral color. The packaging is great too – you would love to reapply – in public! And it is NOT limited edition!

So have you tried the Clinique Long Last range? Would you like to try this coral color? And what do you feel about the tactics of SAs to push a product or make a sale. Do share your experience through the comments.

Have a great week!

So I bring for you today my first purchase from her line….Pot Rouge for Lip and Cheek – It is amongst Bobbi’s personal top 10.

Our best-selling, multi-tasking cream color just got even better. It’s now in a mirrored flip-top compact for on-the-spot application. Blend it on the apples of your cheeks for a just-pinched look. Blot it on your lips for a soft, stained finish. For drier skins, be sure to moisturize skin first.

For an allover peachy glow.

cream blush

In Bobbi’s own words: “My memories of my mother using her lipstick as blush inspired this product. Blend it on the apples of your cheek for a just pinched look and blot it on your lips for a soft, stained finish”

Incidentally, this was a trick taught to me by my colleague on a day when we were too hard-pressed for time to be bothered to refresh our makeup. A lipstick is all we would carry in our pocket!

Anyways, it seemed like a cool and convenient product and I had to try it. The only thing was, I wasn’t into beauty blogging so much at that time. Meaning, I would occassionaly (not voiciferously) check reveiws and never ever checked swatches to select a product (unlike now). So, I went to the duty free counter and asked for the product to be shown. The SA picked out a shade in pink and my response was if she could show me something in Coral (Oh My God!!! That word again!!! I know! But we do like Corals, don’t we!!!). She picked up Calypso Coral and handed it to me. I asked if I could see any other shade and she pretty much refused (in a sweet way), stating this is the one which sells the most – take it! And I took it! Blind buy! Not swatched. Not tried. Strangely, come to think of it, most of my Bobbi Brown purchases have been blind buys and I have not regretted them!

Bobbi Brown Lip & Cheek Pot Rouge – Coral Calypso (3)

Price:

$26.00 or 3.8gms of product. I bought it for INR 1900-2000.
Pricey? Yes! But its BB (Bobbi Brown) – so worth it!

Packaging:

If you see Rati’s review of Cabo Coral from February 2011 – this product used to come in a pot, without mirror and about 11gms of the product. This has changed to the sleek, black (typical of Bobbi Brown products) compact type of casing with mirror. The case is enclosed in a black cardboard packaging.

The product quantity has diminished drastically from 11gms to 3.8gms, instead. However, the pricing has not changed favourably!

Product:

On the website, Coral Calypso is listed as a bright Coral. However, for our Indian skin tone – its not so bright. Rather it’s a pink-peach shade which gives a very natural, healthy look.It is extremely pigmented so a litlle product goes a long way. When you look at the swatch, please note that the color is fairly light, so you will not see a dark stain. However, for the color that it is, it is extremely pigmented.

Bobbi Brown Lip & Cheek Pot Rouge – Coral Calypso swatches

The product is not soft gooey cream, rather it is a harder cream but its easy to pick up the product.

For the Cheeks – I prefer to use my fingers to warm the product and apply it. Initially, I was not getting the right way to apply the cream product. Then I came across Rati’s article on how to apply it – tap and blend with fingers – which I find very effective with this product.

The consistency is such that it is very easy to blend. It does not form splotches on your face if blending is not quick. Post application, it does not become Matte (like the MUFE Microfinifsh HD blush) – however, it is not shiny either. The sad part is that it does not stay put for too long – I am not sure whether it is the product to blame or my oily skin. It lasts for about 4 hours – which is great for a trip to the mall but not necessarily for office. With a good primer and base – the wear time can be increased by another 1-2 hours but no further. I Love the healthy natural looking sheen it gives my face. However, for ladies with darker skin tone, I would suggest to try before you buy.

On the Lips – On the lips it lasted for about 4-5hours but was drying. Lip balm was required. Initially, when I applied the product on my NC35 (in MAC) skin –I felt that the color pretty much washed me out. However, within a couple of minutes, the color darkened a little (I think with the warmth of the skin) and gave a healthy, slightly pinkinsh my-lips-but-better color stain.

coral blush

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Bobbi Brown Lip & Cheek Pot Rouge – Coral Calypso:

1. Lovely natural looking color – perfect for a healthy look on cheeks and lips.
2. Easy to apply
3. Easy to carry and do touchups since the product comes with a mirror.
4. Did not break me out
5. Did not accentuate my pores
6. It been with me for close to a year but has not shown any signs of drying.
7. Fabullous, sleek and convenient packaging
8. Good pigmentation

Cons of Bobbi Brown Lip & Cheek Pot Rouge – Coral Calypso:

1. The price is a con – close to 2K for 3.8gms product is definitely expensive!
2. Drying on the lips (I do have naturally dry lips and needed a lip balm.

Grande Finale:

IMBB Rating:

4.5

For me, it’s a fab product. I love the texture and the healthy look it gives my face. I may not rush out to pick up another shade because it is expensive. However, I do believe that even with 3.8gms, the product will last me a long time. And its so convenient to carry. If you have a reason to splurge and can go upto Saket, check this one out.

And do share with me whats on your wishlist from Bobbi Brown. If I have it with me, I will try to review it for you in time for you to make a decision!

Cheers! Have a great day!

Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer Ink

I have mentioned in my previous post my love for all things Bobbi Brown! And I am so “J” of all you guys in Delhi who can visit the store!  No worries, I will wait for it to come to Mumbai or wait for another trip abroad – whichever comes first!

If ever there was a product with a cult following – Bobbi Brown gel liners it would be! They are pretty much the best in the business – creamy, insanely pigmented, easy to apply and smudge (if you want to) and last the whole day – effortlessly! They come in 13 permanent colours.
bobbi brown gel eye liner

Product Information (from the website):

It is part of Bobbi’s Top 10 – “This really makes eyes pop. Because it is gel-based, it gliodes on without tugging and you have a minute of play time before it sets. Best of all, it doesn’t smudge and stays in place until you take it off.”

This award-winning liner gives you the look of liquid liner with the ease & feel of a gel formula. Long-wearing, water-resistant color glides on & let’s you get it just right before it dries – then stays without a smear or crease.

Awarded ‘Best of Beauty’ by ‘Allure’ Magazine (2012).
Winner of ’50 Best Beauty Products 2013′ by ‘Siempre Mujer Magazine’
Selected as a “Best Beauty Buy” by InStyle Magazine (May 2013).

bobbi brown ivy shimmer ink gel liner

To apply:

Dip tip of Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush (coat both sides of brush head). Wipe off excess before applying to eye. Work quickly as product becomes transfer-resistant once dry. To remove, use Instant Long-Wear Makeup Remover.
(You can obviously use whichever brush you are comfortable with – I use the Inglot bent brush or the freebie brush which came with my Loreal Superliner. And it can be removed with any eye/makeup remover.

Price:

$23.00 or 3gms of product.
I bought it for INR 1450.
(Priced at INR 1540 @ Bobbi Brown store in Delhi)
Pricey? Yes! Worth it? Find out by reading rest of the review! ;)

Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer ink (13)
Packaging:

It comes in a typical glass pot with a black screw cap – quite similar to the Loreal Superliner pot. There is no mirror or brush with it.Duty Free outlets stocking Bobbi Brown generally have special offer where you can get the Black Ink and Sepia Ink (a rich brown) gel liners with a free mini ultrafine eye liner brush! There is 3gms of product there but you hardly need much for the application.

Product:

As with most of my Bobbi Brown purchases, this was a blind buy! I had checked swatches and asked my hubby to pick Denim Ink (on one of his trips abroad). Since that was not available and I bet he dreaded coming home without a Bobbi Brown product, so here is what he got! But I love it! This would anyways have been my second choice.

Bobbi’s gel liners come under too categories – with shimmer and without. So colors like Blank Ink, Dark Chocolate Ink, Espresso Ink are all without shimmer. And the ones like Ivy Shimmer, Chocolate shimmer, etc have shimmer particles. The only exception to it is Violet Ink which does not have ‘shimmer’ in the name but the product actually does.

Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer ink (16)

Coming to Ivy Shimmer – it’s has intensely dark green colour with green/teal shimmer in it. Pls note, the shimmer is not sparkly or chunky. It is extremely understated. The colour itself is green without being bright and OTT or “Oh my God! I have green on my eyes!” I am not saying that I have an aversion to a bright green on my eyes – I quite like MAC Undercurrent. However, bright, in-your-face colors are pretty much NOT Bobbi Brown. As I mentioned in my previous post (Bobbi Brown- Pot Rouge for Lips & Cheek – Calypso Coral), Bobbi’s philosophy is not about loud, OTT colors – its about enhancing what you have as an individual!

Bobbi believes that “makeup is a way for a woman to look and feel like herself, only prettier and more confident.” Through Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Bobbi enables every woman to enhance her unique beauty. With straightforward, easy-to-use cosmetics in timeless hues, all formulated to create a smooth, natural, and healthy appearance.

Coming back to Ivy Shimmer, the teal shimmer is understated and catches light only in bright lights (sunlight or indoors). Otherwise it just looks like an extremely dark green. It was extremely difficult to take photo where the true colour of the product would be visible. I think, I finally managed it. Just for comparison, I have swatched my Loreal Gel Superliner in Black alongside the Ivy Shimmer to highlight the colour.

Th product is Insanely pigmented – one swipe of the brush is enough and its fairly quick to dry. If you do want to create a smokey eye look, you have to be quick at smudging it before it sets. I have super oily lids. However, this is one liner which stays and stays no matter what! I have tested it for 8 hours. There was a little fading of the colour, however, no smudging. I have used it on my waterline and it stays put there as well.

Just to share with you, post swatching the product, I tried getting it off my hand with a napkin – it would not budge – no streaking, no smudging, nothing. It just stayed put. So I thought lets test it, I put my hand under water and then tried wiping with a cloth – again, no effect. Finally, removed it with a makeup remover!

Swatch of the product with a Black gel liner

Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer ink (15)

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer Ink:

1. Lovely color – intense dark green with teal shimmer.
2. Insanely pigmented – you don’t need to go over and over with the brush to apply it. One swipe is enough.
3. Creamy texture which glides on smoothly – Easy to apply.
4. Smudge proof and waterproof – stays put till you decide to take it off!
5. Can be used to create thin line or smudged smokey eye effect. You can also use it as a base for green smokey eyes. The teal shimmer adds a whole new dimension to the look.
6. I have had this for about 5-6months – does not show any sign of drying.
7. There is no fragrance – I don’t like fragrance in eye products!
8. Did not cause any irritation to my sensitive eyes (even when applied to the lower waterline).

Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer ink (14)

Cons of Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner – Ivy Shimmer Ink:

1. The price may be a con. But you do get your money’s worth with this product.

Grande Finale:

IMBB Rating – 5/5

It’s a fantastic eyeliner. I have been an eyeliner girl since my teens. Have been using (mostly liquid eyeliners) since school/college days – so much so that, without lipstick, I am okay, but without eyeliner, I feel my face is naked! This, for me, is as good as it gets – predominantly because it lasts the whole day without smudging, without feathering and I don’t find it staining my crease or upper lid. What more can you ask for in a liner?

So, when are you guys visiting the Bobbi Brown shop and what are you going to be picking from there?

Wish you guys a great day ahead!

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick – Rose Blossom Review

Bobbi+Brown+Rich+Lip+Color+Lipstick+Rose+Blossom+Review

We continue with our journey on all things Bobbi Brown.  As I have mentioned in my previous articles, Bobbi Brown cosmetics are not about the colours of the rainbow. Rather, its about subtle makeup – as invisible as is possible – enhancing the true tone of a women’s lips, face, eyes.  When Bobbi started off, she hated the lipsticks available in the market and wanted colors that would look like the wearer’s own lips, that would be creamy but have staying power, that would feel good and have no scent. And so, in 1990, she began working with a chemist on just such a line. In 1991, she launched ten neutral lipsticks at Bergdorf Goodman in New York City. They had projected sales of 100 lipsticks in their first month; 100 were sold the first day!! That’s the power of Bobbi Brown cosmetics and I am so happy to see them come to India.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick - Rose Blossom 2

Bobbi Brown today has about 5 different kinds of lipsticks (excluding the Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks).

The lipstick I review for you today is again part of Bobbi’s Top 10 and was launched in 2011 – Rich Lip Color Lipstick – they are known to be extremely pigmented, lightweight with creamy texture and have SPF-12.

Product Description:

Rich Lip Color – In Bobbi’s own words – “I love this formula because it combines color-saturated coverage with an uber lightweight texture.”

Bright, get-noticed colour. Lightweight, yet intense, Bobbi’s latest formula combines pigments with a clear base to deliver pure, crisp color with just one swipe. Plus, it’s creamy and moisturizing, so lips feel as good as they look.  Featured in Real Simple magazine’s “5 Worth-it-splurges” (March 2012) and the Today Show for its long-lasting, non-drying formula as well as wide range of shades that complement all skin tones.  These were launched in 12 colours but are now available in 21 colours.

Price:

$25.00 for 3.8 gm (vs 3 – 3.2gms of product from other brands).

I bought it online for about INR 1500.  Do let me know what the price is in the Saket shop.

Packaging:

The packaging is standard Bobbi Brown black – its sleek sturdy plastic packaging. These lipsticks come in a black square tube. The tube is packed in a cardboard box.  There is no colour indicator on the packaging except the name written on the bottom. Just like MAC lipsticks, if you have more than one (which is quite possible once you try these!!), it is difficult to locate the shade you need, in your stash.

Ingredients:

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick - Rose Blossom 3

Product:

Rose Blossom, as per the website, is “a pink rose.”

It’s a bright (not neonish) pink with a hint of plum in it. In the tube, it looks fairly okay colour, however, on the lips, its transforning! It lights up the face, and your lips actually look like rose petals! Okay!! Stop laughing!! It really does. This range of Bobbi has numerous shades of pinks – I do think this is the best one!

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick - Rose Blossom 4

The texture is a dream – and its pretty constant (standard) across different colours in this line. The lipstick just glides on giving opaque pigmentation – there is no tug or pull.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick - Rose Blossom 5

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick - Rose Blossom 8

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick - Rose Blossom 10

The product is creamy – but not glooppy. Post application, it becomes semi-matte – however, it does not sink into the fine lines on my lips. It is not really hydrating but neither does it dry my lips (and I do have dry lips). On the contrary, it is extremely light-weight, making you forget that you have any lipstick on.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick - Rose Blossom 9

It lasted for about 6 hours (with one snack in between) and left a very faint pink stain.

Kulpreet

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick – Rose Blossom:

  • Beautiful colour – easily wearable, extremely flattering.
  • Excellent pigmentation.
  • Would suit most skin tones – from light spectrum to dark.
  • Extremely lightweight – you forget that you have it on!
  • Instantly brightens up the face.
  • Easy application.
  • Sleek and sturdy packaging.
  • Does not feather.
  • Despite its semi-matte finish – does not accentuate the fine lines of my lips.
  • Did not dry out my lips.

Cons of Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick – Rose Blossom:

  • The price might be a con here but the quality of the product is fabulous and incomparable.

There is no discernible smell or taste – like I said before, I am not classifying this aspect in pros and cons – because this is personal preference.

Grande Finale:

IMBB Rating:

5/5

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color SPF 12 – Old Hollywood Review

I am back after a two-week hiatus!! Reason for the hiatus is short and sweet – in laws, actually, its neither short nor sweet!!! :P  So, like I mentioned in my previous post, Rose Blossom wasn’t my first Bobbi Brown lipstick. My first one was actually Old Hollywood which I would review for you today.  Actually, I had ordered two together (yeah! You know me! I can never buy one, its way too difficult!), although there was some contemplation about the second one, this one I was fairly sure of.

Bobbi+Brown+Rich+Lip+Color+SPF+12+Old+Hollywood+Review

This again is from Bobbi’s top 10 – Rich Lip Color.

Product Description:

Rich Lip Color – In Bobbi’s own words – “I love this formula because it combines color-saturated coverage with an uber lightweight texture.”  Bright, get-noticed colour.

Price:

$25.00 for 3.8 gm.

Bobbi Brown Red Lipstick 2

Packaging:

Its the standard Bobbi Brown packaging in all black – the exterior box as well as the lipstick casing. Again, no indicator for the colour except the name written at the bottom – making it difficult to identify the colour!  It clicks shut and the cap is not likely to come askew accidentally.

Bobbi Brown Red Lipstick 3

Old Hollywood, as per the website, is “a bright cherry red.”  The description is apt. The colour is bright red, it is blue based and has a hint of pink to it. This is the only shade of red in this line and its an all out shade – likely to suit most skin tones. It instantly brightens the face and makes the teeth look whiter!

Bobbi Brown Red Lipstick 4

The texture is same as Rose Blossom reviewed earlier – it glides on the lips giving full coverage in a single swipe. The product goes on like a gel – its not exactly creamy and neither is it buttery. Its smooth, very light and insanely pigmented. Post an hour or so, the glossiness wears off and the lipstick settles to a semi-matte finish which does not feel dry even with 6-8 hours of application.

Bobbi Brown Red Lipstick 5

I know people prefer to use red in matte finish – no transfer, no bleeding, stay in place. This lipstick gives all that without making your lips dry!

It lasted 6 hour plus – kind of expected since it’s a red. What was fab about the product was that the lipstick lasted through a meal and a snack. I actually kept going back to my mirror and feeling amazed – “its still there and its still intact!”

It leaves a stain which lasts for couple more hours easily.

Bobbi Brown Red Lipstick 6

Post using this – I so fell in love with the colour that I thought I should buy one as backup as well. Then sanity prevailed – there will always be newer lipsticks and pretty shades to try. Why block money? (Though I may just buy a backup of Rose Blossom because it definitely is “Mera wala pink”!!)

Red Lipstick

To sum it up for you:

Pros of Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color SPF 12 – Old Hollywood:

  • Exceptional light weight texture.
  • Does not bleed or feather.
  • Does not dry the lips or accentuate the fine lines of my lips.
  • Would suit most skin tones without looking garish.
  • Instantly brightens up the face.
  • Will suit most skin tones.
  • Sturdy packaging – it would easily withstand a romp in your bag!
  • Excellent pigmentation.
  • It has SPF 12!!!

Red Lips

Cons of Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color SPF 12 – Old Hollywood:

  • It’s a red – so one needs to pay attention to the application. However, it wasn’t difficult to get an even application straight from the bullet.  Refer to the lip swatches – I have not used a brush.
  • The price might be a con here, but gets justified by the product quality and quantity both.
  • The product does not have any fragrance. As I have said earlier as well – I have not listed this in pros or cons– its a personal preference! Personally, I love a little fragrance in my lip products!

Grande Finale:

IMBB Rating:

5/5

If you love your reds, but hate the dry matte ones which flake on your lips (read Ruby Woo), you have to try this. This is currently my favorite lipstick formula. I love intense pigmented lip colours which feel as light as this! Its purrrfect!  I still have a few Bobbi Brown products – would you like me to continue with the series or take a break and review some other products like L’Oreal, MUFE, Estee Lauder? Do let me know.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink Review

Hey!

Continuing with the Bobbi Brown series, I bring to you today, another lipstick from the Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color range. Since I have already covered the overview of this lipstick range, I will elaborate more on this shade, its story and my experience, rather than about the range itself. If you would like to go through more details on the range – please refer to my reviews on Rose Blossom and Old Hollywood.

Bobbi+Brown+Rich+Lip+Color+Lipstick+in+Heather+Pink+Review

The shade I pick for review today is again part of Bobbi Brown’s top 10. Bobbi’s Top 10 refers to her selection of top 10 products, which as per her is “Everything you need to look and feel your best. From flawless skin to standout eyes, Bobbi’s Top 10 will take you from Pretty to Pretty Powerful.”

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink 2

Product Description:

Rich Lip Color – In Bobbi’s own words – “I love this formula because it combines color-saturated coverage with an uber lightweight texture.” Bright, get-noticed colour.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink 3

Price:

$25.00 for 3.8 gm.  I picked up online for about INR 1450.

Ingredients:

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink 4

Packaging:

The packaging is standard black case in a black cardboard box. If you like MAC packaging, you would like this. Yes, the shape is different – this has a square packaging rather than round.  No indicator for the colour except the name written at the bottom – making it difficult to identify the colour without picking up each one and checking. So to ease this, I store them in the black cardboard box with the name featuring on top of the box.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink 5

The Story:

Not only is this range part of the Bobbi Brown Top 1, it is Bobbi’s favorite colour from this range.  In her own words “its my go-to shade. Heather Pink is a great everyday neutral that I can swipe on without a mirror.”

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink 6

Product:

Heather Pink, as per the website, is a “red pink.”

I wouldn’t call it a red pink – its more like a dirty pink with the barest hint of plum in it. Looks a little bit like Mehr – less pinker and definitely not a matte. Its like a no-brainer colour – when you don’t know what to put on your lips, or when you have heavy eye makeup and want lips to be subtle – Heather Pink is the way to go! For me, it’s like a MLBB colour because its not really nude – there definitely is visible colour which is excellent for hiding lip pigmentation but still giving a natural look.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink 7

Would be perfect for working women – the one lipstick you carry in your bag at all times – is easy to apply, neutral colour, does not dry your lips!

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink 8

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink 9

The texture is same as Rose Blossom and Old Hollywood reviewed earlier – it glides on the lips giving full coverage in a single swipe. The product goes on like a gel – its not exactly creamy and neither is it buttery. Its smooth, very light and well pigmented with a semi-matte finish. It lasted about 5 hours on my lips.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink 10

To sum it up for you:

Pros of Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink:

  • Perfect office colour – subtle, no-brainer, easy to pair with any eye makeup, easy to apply.
  • Exceptional lightweight texture.
  • Does not bleed or feather.
  • Does not dry the lips or accentuate the fine lines of my lips.
  • Will suit most skin tones.
  • Sturdy packaging – clicks shut – does not come loose in the bag!
  • Excellent pigmentation.
  • It has SPF 12!

Bobbi Brown Heather Pink

Cons of Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Heather Pink:

  • The price might be a con here but gets justified by the product quality and quantity both.
  • Easily dupable colour.
  • The product does not have any fragrance.

Pink

Grande Finale:

IMBB Rating:

4/5.

As a product, the lipstick is great. The only reason I deduct 0.5 point here is because its an easily dupable colour. If I had to pick one lipstick between Mehr and this one – I would probably take this for the texture, mattes are drying on my lips.

Have a great week ahead! Do share your experience with Bobbi Brown products and if you have visited the Saket outlet yet.

Bobbi Brown Powder Blush – Apricot Review

My love affair with all things Bobbi Brown continues. Today, I bring to you the powder blush from Bobbi’s line. Not only is there a beautiful range of colours to chose from, there is a variety for people like me who prefer matte blushes.  Bobbi’s blushes fall into 2 categories – one, which give a subtle natural colour to your cheeks – like Nude Pink, Slopes, Tawny and the other range is the one which gives a pop of colour to your cheeks like Apricot, Nectar, Peony. Bobbi actually suggests layering them, i.e., applying a blush from the subtle range to your cheeks and then adding a pop of colour just to the apples with the dramatic colour. For example, put Tawny on your cheekbones and apply Apricot/Nectar to the apple of your cheek. That makes one go from subtle to dramatic with pretty much the same products.

Bobbi+Brown+Powder+Blush+Apricot+Review

In the words of Bobbi Brown’s makeup artist:

“Lots of brands recommend topping a neutral blush with a “pop” of a brighter shade right on the apples of the cheeks.  I am not sure about now, but Bobbi used to really push this idea. Pale Pink, Apricot, Peony, and Nectar are all great “pop” colors — I used to wear Tawny with Apricot on top when I first started working for the line.”

Bobbi Brown Powder Blush – Apricot 2

Product Details:

Silky formula glides on smoothly and offers a matte finish with long-lasting wear. Comes in this sleek, flip-top compact that can be used individually or assembled into palettes (sold separately).  Apply on the apples of cheeks using the Blush Brush, blending up into the hairline, then downwards to soften. Finish with a pop of brighter blush, applied just on the apples of cheeks. For a shimmery glow on cheeks, follow with a Shimmer Brick Compact.  ”Blushed” Blush featured in “Martha Stewart Weddings” Magazine (Winter 2012).

Price:

INR 2100 for 3.7 gms / USD $26  Expensive? Yes! INR 2100 for just 3.7 gms of product!! But at least with this, you are likely to hit the pan in this lifetime!! ;)

Bobbi Brown Powder Blush – Apricot 4

Also, I am glad its 3.7 gm because they could have made it 7 gm or more and charged INR 4500 for it! Tom Ford does!! it doesn’t make sense to me when the blush pan is 7-8 gm and priced at INR 2500 and plus, you know you will never consume that much product in this lifetime and you are not comfortable shelling out that kind of money for one colour! Plus, there is no hope for trying more than one colour from that line!

Bobbi Brown Powder Blush – Apricot 5

To put it into perspective for you regarding the quantity and price:

MAC – 6 gms for INR 1450
NARS – 4.8 gms for INR 1850

Expensive? Yes!  Worth it? Read on to find out!

Packaging:

It comes in square plastic packaging – you have seen the package in Rati’s review of the blush Pink. There is no mirror or brush. Yes, we rarely use the mirror or the brush from the packaging, so its okay to not have it, but sometimes, they can be great for touch-ups – for women on the go or the ones working in an office environment.

Bobbi Brown Powder Blush – Apricot 6

The packaging is fairly thin and small – so its easy to travel with. The blush can be potted out to fit a customized Bobbi Brown palette.

My Experience with Bobbi Brown Powder Blush – Apricot:

Well, this one is another fairly blind purchase, I went through swatches online and shortlisted a couple of these and gave a note to hubby (travelling abroad) to pick X or Y. I did not get to try it or feel it prior to purchase.

Bobbi Brown Powder Blush – Apricot 7

Am I happy? Yes!! Look at the pan! The website describes the colour as “Bright Apricot”! Hmmmmmmm….that doesn’t say much, does it?? Well, it’s a bright, fairly dark pink with good pigmentation.  However, unlike NARS blushes, you don’t really need an ultra light hand. One sweep of a blush brush is enough. If you want to accentuate it, a second sweep is more than enough. (If it was a NARS blush, I would be using a fan brush gently). Do not get me wrong – it is not low on pigmentation.

Bobbi Brown Powder Blush – Apricot 8

I compare with NARS because that is my HG product when it comes to blushes! However, Bobbi Brown’s Apricot has better pigmentation than most MAC blushes (I use MAC as an easy point of reference for you all).

Bobbi+Brown+-+Apricot+Powder+Blush+2

The great part about the blush is that it stays put on my oily skin for good 7 hours and more. So you definitely get bang for your buck!

Bobbi+Brown+-+Apricot+Powder+Blush+3

It would work great with the pinks and corals of summer and with all the dark colours coming out in winters, what stops us from giving a pop of colour to our cheeks with some plummy lipsticks!

Pros of Bobbi Brown Powder Blush – Apricot:

  • Its finely milled and easily blendable!
  • Gives a beautiful, natural looking pop of colour to your face.
  • Its got great pigmentation – so a little will go a long way!
  • Will suit most skin tones.
  • Comes in a sleek packaging – easy to carry packaging.
  • The packaging has a clear top, so its easy to identify the colour if you have more than one of these.
  • Extremely long-lasting. The color stays put for good 7 hours.
  • The color would work well for day and night both.
  • Does not accentuate the pores.

Cons of Bobbi Brown Powder Blush – Apricot:

  • The price! Need I say it again!
  • A mirror/brush would have been welcome.

Here is how it looks on my NC35 skin tone.

IMBB Rating:

4.75/5 (I take away 0.25 points for the price to product ratio)!!

Hope you enjoyed the review. So tell me, given an option to splurge, what would you splurge on? Blush or lipstick?? Do share your thoughts through comments.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick – Guava

Hello Ladies! (and any guys who might also be tuning in!)

By now its fairly established that we love our corals and hot pinks Don’t know if its the feel of summer or just cosmetic companies throwing a lot of corals and hot pinks our way. Do you see your hand moving towards corals at the counter? Do you see yourself shortlisting pinks post seeing the reviews? Do you see yourslef drooling over pinky coral swatches? Well, I know I do.

Bobbi Brown Rich LipColor Lipstick Guava

And the cosmetic companies have realized it fairly quickly too! Every new line will have a couple of corals. These are the ones which become hot-sellers. So much so that when I went to Inrobit recently, I was searching for a particular red from Elizabeth Arden. However, the SA kept pushing coral to me “It’s the best colour. It’s the hottest seller!” I hear you! But I don’t want it!! Uggghhhh!

And then there are lines with pretty pretty corals in them – however not labelling them as corals. Dumb? Naaah….the line probably came out waaaaay before the coral craze hit the market. And that’s how I bring this pretty pink coral to you….named “Guava”!! The lipstick is again from Bobbi’s Rich Lip Color Line – I know, I really do need to test other lines from Bobbi’s arsenal. Soon!! These are known to be extremely pigmented, lightweight with creamy texture and have SPF-12.

The Product (from the website):

Rich Lip Color – In Bobbi’s own words – “I love this formula because it combines color-saturated coverage with an uber lightweight texture”.
Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick – Guava ingredients
Bright, get-noticed colour. Lightweight, yet intense, Bobbi’s latest formula combines pigments with a clear base to deliver pure, crisp color with just one swipe. Plus, it’s creamy and moisturizing, so lips feel as good as they look.Featured in Real Simple magazine’s “5 Worth-it-splurges” (March 2012) and the Today Show for its long-lasting, non-drying formula as well as wide range of shades that complement all skin tones.
These were launched in 12 colours but are now available in 21 colours.

Price:

$25.00 for 3.8gms (A MAC is about 3gms)

I bought it from Duty Free for about INR 1550

Packaging:

The Packaging is standard Bobbi Brown black packaging – sleek sturdy plastic. These lipsticks come in a black square tube. The tube is packed in a cardboard box.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick – Guava (11)

It does feel classy but the packaging doesn’t really push the enveloppe. Its quitely classic – like a Chanel. But not something which makes people go OMG!

There is no colour indicator on the packaging except the name written on the bottom. Just like MAC lipsticks, if you have more than one, it is difficult to locate the shade you need, in your stash. I keep them in their cardboard box since it has the name written on top.
Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick – Guava (8)
Product:

Guava, as per the website, is “a bright pink coral”.It’s the perfect description! It’s a bright (not neonish) pinky coralI Its bright enough to lighten up the face but soft enough to be worn anywhere easily. Its not “in your face” bright like Impassioned or Viva Glam Nikki.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick – Guava (6)

I have already shared with you regarding the texture in my previous reviews of this line – it glides on smoothly giving glossy opaque pigmentation – there Is no tug or pull. The product is like a soft gel – comfortable on your lips without being gloopy. The lipsick sets to a semi-matte fifnish in sometime. Inspite of the soft colour, it does not show lines on the lips when you press them together. And It does not sink into the fine lines on my lips. It lasted for about 5-6 hours (with one snack in between) and left a very faint pink stain.
Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick – Guava (5)
To sum this up for you:

Pros of Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick – Guava:

1. Beautiful colour – Pinky coral – Easily wearable, extremely flattering.
2. Excellent pigmentation
3. Would suit most skin tones.
4. Extremely light-weight
5. Instantly brightens up the face
6. Easy application right from the tube
7. Sleek and sturdy packaging
8. Does not feather.
9. Despite its semi-matte finish – does not accentuate the fine lines of my lips
10. Did not dry out my lips.
11. Has SPF12
pink lipstick

Cons of Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick – Guava:

1. The price might be a con for some since it is over 1K. But it really delivers on the quality and quantity.

There is no discernible smell or taste – which is neither a pro or a con – it is personal preference.

Like I have said earlier, thi sis my absolute favorite lipstick formula! This range of Bobbi has such beautiful shades of Pink – you are sure to find the purrfect one for you! As far as this colour is concerned, I do feel it is a pretty refreshing pink coral. It would probably sell like hotcakes if they named it “Coral”!! So, what is your favorite coral lippy? And what hue of coral do you prefer – pink, orange or red?

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Mod Pink Review

As promised in my previous review, I bring to you another pink from Bobbi Brown. This is the last Bobbi Brown lipstick in my collection – and cliched though it may sound, its definitely not the least!

Bobbi+Brown+Rich+Lip+Color+Lipstick+in+Mod+Pink+Review

When I pick up more (see how I use the word “when” and not “if”) I will surely share it with you. There are still 2 more lipsticks from this collection on my wishlist and then I have to try Bobbi’s mattes because Rati has been raving about them so much.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Mod Pink 2

I was searching for this pastel creamy baby pink kind of colour (which I still am – and any suggestions to that effect are welcome) and came across Bobbi’s Mod Pink.  Okay, I will be honest (since I doubt my hubby is reading this article) – I knew this was no baby pink – but a bright pink – and I had been thinking about picking up a more wearable bright pink from MAC – like Chatterbox or Speak Louder or Lustering – but was not happy with the textures offered – I thought I would give this a try because I know I like Bobbi Brown’s Rich Color lipstick texture – lightweight, smooth, insanely pigmented, long wearing and with SPF 12.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Mod Pink 3

So, was the colour worth it? Read on, to find out!

Product Description:

Rich Lip Color – In Bobbi’s own words – “I love this formula because it combines color-saturated coverage with an uber lightweight texture.”  Bright, get-noticed colour.

Price:

$25.00 for 3.8 gm.  I bought it online for about INR 1500

To put some perspective to the product for the MAC lovers:

A normal MAC lipstick is INR 990 for 3 gm.

And MAC Mineralize lipstick, priced at INR 1650 is 3.6 gm.

Packaging:

The packaging is classic black, like a Chanel lipstick – black, square tube. However, the packaging here is more matte while Chanel packaging is glossy black. It comes packaged in a cardboard box.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Mod Pink 4

My biggest grouse with the packaging is the lack of colour indicator except the name written at the bottom of the lipstick.  So, I need to store them in the box itself because that way the name stays displayed on top.

The packaging is sturdy and closes with a resounding click; however, I do feel wish the packaging of the high end brands pushed the envelope a little and made life easier for the consumer by putting some colour indicator somehow instead of hiding behind black casings. I know a couple of brands who have effectively experimented with this and quite successfully too – Estee Lauder, YSL!

My Take on Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Mod Pink:

Mod Pink, as per the website, is “a bright pink.” It is definitely a bright happy pink – not fuchsia, not raspberry, not neonish, just bright soft pink! I love Bobbi’s pinks, they are so pretty, so wearable and the best part is that the quality of the product does not vary between shades. Yes, some of the lighter shades stain lesser and are a little lesser long-lasting than say her Red (Old Hollywood), but there is no marked difference in texture, feel, application or longevity of the lipstick.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Mod Pink 5

The lipstick just glides on giving opaque pigmentation – with no tug or pull. It applied like a gel – extremely lightweight – so much so that you forget you are wearing it. It goes on glossy but about half an hour, it settles into a semi-matte finish – however, it does not sink into the fine lines on my lips. It is not really hydrating but neither does it dry my lips. There is no feeling of tightening of lips post application or even later.

Bobbi+Brown+-+Mod+Pink+3

Boobi+Brown+-+Mod+Pink+2

It lasted for about 5-6 hours (with one snack in between) and left a very faint pink stain.

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Mod Pink:

  • Beautiful colour – easily wearable, extremely flattering.
  • Excellent pigmentation.
  • Would suit most skin tones – from light spectrum to dark.
  • Extremely lightweight – you forget that you have it on!
  • Instantly brightens up the face.
  • Easy application.
  • Sleek and sturdy packaging.
  • Does not feather.
  • Despite its semi-matte finish – does not accentuate the fine lines of my lips.
  • Did not dry out my lips.
  • Has SPF 12.

Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Mod Pink 10

Cons of Bobbi Brown Rich Lip Color Lipstick in Mod Pink:

  • The price might be a con but the quality and quantity definitely make up for it.
  • There is no discernible smell or taste.

Grande Finale:

IMBB Rating:

5/5.

Like I have said before, this is my absolute favorite lipstick formula – which makes me keep going back and buying more from this range.  As far as the colour is concerned, I do not think it is unique – meaning, it is easily dupe-able. However, paired with the texture, its fairly unbeatable! Anyone looking for a nice bright pink or bubblegum pink would love this happy shade, it has a quick “pick me up” quality about it.

So, what is your sure shot pick me up? A hot pink lipstick? A glass of wine? A new Gucci handbag (Sorry, couldn’t resist it Rati!! *happydance* )? Or a new pair of stilettos?

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick: Wild Rose

Hello Lovely People!!
IMG_5530

“Back with Bobbi” – sounds like a hep name for the Bobbi Brown Series?? Hmmm….sad that I thought of the name when I have reached the fag end of the series!!

Anyways…How can a Bobbi Brown series be complete without mentioning (or reviewing) her Shimmer Brick! A product with cult following, Bobbi’s Shimmer brick are the ultimate product for shimmer lovers….a blush? A highlighter? An eye shadow pack? It a multi tasker – don’t we love those.

THE BACKSTORY:
One season, with just minutes to go before the runway lights went up, a fashion designer asked Bobbi to give all the models a lit-from-within look. So she took a shimmery eye shadow and dusted it on everyone’s cheeks—and that’s how the idea for Shimmer Brick was born.

Shimmer bricks are handmade in Italy by pressing five different shades of “ultra-luxe pure pearl pigments” into one pan and double-baking them, the brand explains, and a variety of highlighter shades have been available through the years, some permanent and some limited.

IMG_5520

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick - Wild Rose

Product Information:

In Bobbi’s own words – “Swept over cheeks or dabbed on lids, nothing lights up your face like shimmer.”

You will not find information on “Wild Rose” shimmer brick on Bobbi’s site. Why? Because it is not available for sale through the site. It’s a special edition product. Note – it is not Limited Edition (available for limited time only) but Special edition (available to select customer base). It is Travel exclusive. So, you will find it easily at in Bobbi Brown’s counters Duty Free shops and Inflight on International airlines.
IMG_5509

From the Cathay Pacific Inflight Magazine : Hand made in Italy, this award winning editor’s favorite highlights skin with five bars of pearlescent shimmer. Each bar also doubles up as eye shadow.

From the website:
To apply: Sweep the Face Blender Brush through all five shades of Shimmer Brick Compact and dust lightly on cheekbones after blush. Focus on applying shimmer on the top of cheekbones – where light naturally hits the face – for the most flattering look.

Bobbi Brown - Shimmer Brick - Wild Rose

Shimmer Brick Tip
Nothing lights up the face like a touch of shimmer. For skin that looks lit-from within, focus on applying Shimmer Brick on top of the cheekbones. To highlight eyes, apply the lightest shade in the compact just under the browbone.

Price:
$49.00 or 10.3gms of product.
I know the dollar conversion today makes you think and re-think shopping for makeup!!!

Packaging:
The shimmer brick comes housed in a black box with a decent sized mirror. There is no brush (Bobbi launched holiday edition of shimmer brick in Rose, couple of years back with a mini blender brush with it – LE only). The brick is hoised in the centre of the box protected with a styrofoam cushion. I have retained the styrofoam cushion to ensure the brick doesn’t break – have heard horror stories online of the brick shattering to pieces post a fall.

Since it’s a special edition, the packaging is slightly different with gold accents on the top of the box which gives it a nice luxe apperance!

The compact comes packaged in a cardboard box. Again, since this was special edition – purchased inflight, it came with a cellophene wrap seal packaging around it – which is always a welcome sight!

Product:
The product consisits of five shimmery pink-tinted strips. The individual strips vary from rosy light-medium pink to peach-orange to warm-toned dirty pink – all with a frosted metallic sheen,

The pigmentation is okay, however because of the immense shimmer, you may not be able to make out much distinction between colours in swatches or on application.

For the Cheeks I tried using it as a blush on my cheeks; the colour payoff is just okay, not very high not very low, because it has been designed as such– not to give as much colour as it is for highlighting. If I build up the colour in layers, it does build up to a rosy hue; however, the shimmer also does. The added shimmer tends to draw attention to my open pores. (please note, it is a shimmer brick….however, it is not like glitter on your face!!)

I think the need to build up for the colour to really show may be because of the skin tone– I am NC30-35 in MAC. On a fairer, say Caucasian skin, this could work as a perfect shimmery rosy blush.

You do have the option of sweeping this on to your cheek post application of a blush– hence, adding a touch of shimmer to any blush of yours and the extra oomph to your face!

For the purpose of the review, the photograph is with built-up shimmer brick (no blush added to the cheek).

For the eyes – If you like shimmery eyeshadow (I do) – this could work for you. However, I feel that the colour variation between the five strips is very less. So when I tried it on my eyes (refer the pics), I am not really able to tell that I have used 2 shades and not just used one shade all over the lid. Which is a bummer!

On the Lips – This is not an advertised usage but you could use the brick to dab a little shimmer on your lips and top it with a nude lipgloss to give an extra oomph to your lips!

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick: Wild Rose

1. The powder is extremely finely milled
2. Shimmer is not at all chunky or glittery but very very fine.
3. Gives a pleasant rosy hue blush to the cheeks
4. Multipurpose product – use as blush, eyeliner, highlighter.
5. Easy to apply
6. Easy to carry and do touchups since the product comes with a mirror. However, I would be wary of carrying it around in my bag – for fear that the strips might break with impact.
7. Did not break me out
8. Decent pigmentation

Cons of Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick: Wild Rose

1. The shimmer does accentuate pores a little.
2. The price is a con –3K+ for the product
3. Too much quantity – Yes, you read that right! Its too much quantity for us to be able to use it – even with it being multipurpose!

Grande Finale:
IMBB Rating: Product – 4.5 / Indian Context – 2.5
Ok – this is the first time I am splitting the rating of a product in this way.

As a product category – it is a great multi-tasker. It has been a game changer and an iconic product in the Bobbi Brown line – and is definitely high quality. You cannot complain that it gives too much shimmer – hello!! It is a shimmer brick!

In the Indian Context – In our context, ie, with reference to the Indian skin tone, I do not see Wild Rose being used much by me in my daily regime. Yes, it’s a highlighter, it’s a eyeshadow, it’s a blush – however, 3K for this is a wee bit too much because I personally will not use it much. Open pores, skin tone – these conditions do not help me want to reach for the product.

But note, I am not writing off this product, I am commenting on the shade Wild Rose in context to the general Indian skin tone.

You may be someone who loves this product or another shade of the Shimmer Brick. Do check out the shimmer brick in store / counter before you shell out 49$!!

Cheers! Have a great day!

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick – Nectar Review

And I am “BACK WITH BOBBI”!! I reviewed Bobbi’s Shimmer Brick in Wild Rose a couple of days back and today I bring to you my first Shimmer Brick purchase – Nectar. Yet another coral product??? Common! Don’t groan!! We love corals! By the way, more coral lipsticks coming up soon. Watch this space!

Bobbi+Brown+Shimmer+Brick+Nectar+Review

Yes, you may ask why I would buy another one when I already had one, cannot possibly use 20.6 gm of shimmer in this lifetime. Well, its all a big misunderstanding. As you can see my love for all things Bobbi – I was dying to try the Shimmer Brick but couldn’t get my hands on it. So, when I saw this online, I quickly zapped it up. However, in the interim, my hubby picked one up while abroad because he knew I had been wanting to try this (it was on the list handed to him!!)! So, both pretty much landed at my doorsteps together.

Not only will I be doing a review on Nectar – I will also be doing a comparison post between Nectar and Wild Rose.

As I have shared with you before – Bobbi’s shimmer bricks are a multi-tasking product – a blush, a highlighter, an eye shadow – all in one. Shimmer bricks are handmade in Italy by pressing five different shades of “ultra-luxe pure pearl pigments” into one pan and double-baking them, the brand explains, and a variety of highlighter shades have been available through the years, some permanent and some limited.

Product Description:

Details on Nectar:  This shimmering, brush-on powder creates a soft, coral glow. Works well with neutral and peach blush shades.

To apply: Sweep the Face Blender Brush through all five shades of Shimmer Brick Compact and dust lightly on cheekbones after blush. Focus on applying shimmer on the top of cheekbones – where light naturally hits the face – for the most flattering look.

Shimmer Brick Tip:  Nothing lights up the face like a touch of shimmer. For skin that looks lit-from within, focus on applying shimmer brick on top of the cheekbones. To highlight eyes, apply the lightest shade in the compact just under the brow bone.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick – Nectar 2

Price:

$42.00 or 10.3 gm of product.

I purchased it for about INR 2400 in April 2013.

(Yeah – dollar rate was comparatively favourable!)

Packaging:

The shimmer brick comes housed in a black box with a decent-sized mirror.  There is no brush.  The brick is hoised in the centre of the box protected with a styrofoam cushion. I suggest to retain the the styrofoam cushion to prevent any breakage.  The back label states clearly, “Shimmer brick powders are fragile. Please handle with care.”

The compact comes packaged in a cardboard box. The same is not sealed.

The product consists of 5 strips of colour ranging from champagne to coral to pink to peach and coming together, they blend to give a coral look packing lots of sheen! Refer to the swatches on my NC35 skin.

I feel the pigmentation to be fairly good that can be built easily. However, suggest you try it with a soft hand and build slowly.

For the Cheeks – I tried using it as a blush on my cheeks – the colour payoff is okay – not very high, not very low – refer my face pic as part of the collage – only Nectar has been used on the cheeks.

I am NC 30-35. On a lighter skin, the oomph factor would definitely accentuate. An alternative for the medium/olive skin person could be to use this over a coral/peach/pink blush. Refer my single face pic wherein I have used Nectar over a blush (NARS Deep Throat) – it gives colour as well as sheen – and is my favorite combo currently.

You could also use the lightest shade in the brick as a highlighter for the brow bone or for the area under the eye. The lightest strip looks white but has a champagne colour with a slight tinge of pink. (Refer swatches – second swatch from the right).

For the eyes – I like how the strips in Nectar have fairly distinct colours (as opposed to the colours in Wild Rose Shimmer Brick). This allows one to actually use the strips as an eyeshadow.  I have tried using the lightest colour with a deeper colour (from the brick) in the outer lid. The beauty of this brick is that I really do not have to spend much time blending it because the colours naturally blend in seamlessly.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick - Nectar

On the lips – This is not an advertised usage but you could use the brick to dab a little shimmer on your lips and top it with a nude lip gloss to give an extra oomph to your lips!

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick 3 -Nectar vs Wild Rose

To sum this up for you:

Pros of Bobbi Brown  Shimmer Brick – Nectar:

  • The colours are beautiful, distinct and duo-chromatic – I hope you can make that out in the pictures.
  • The powder is extremely finely milled.
  • Shimmer is not at all chunky or glittery, but very fine.
  • Gives a pleasant coral hue blush to the cheeks.
  • Multipurpose product – use as blush, eyeliner, highlighter.
  • Easy to apply.
  • Has a decent-sized mirror for touch up on the go. However, I would be wary of carrying it around in my bag – for fear that the strips might break with impact.
  • Did not break me out.
  • Decent pigmentation.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick – Nectar 4

Kulpreet

Cons of Bobbi Brown  Shimmer Brick – Nectar:

  • The shimmer does accentuate pores a little.
  • The price is a definite con.
  • Too much quantity – not likely to finish this in this lifetime!

Grande Finale:

IMBB Rating: Product – 5

I am not splitting the ratings here because I genuinely feel that the product is fantastic and it works well for the Indian skin tone and will prove way more versatile than Wild Rose – be it in its use as a blush or eyeshadow or highlighter. It is able to do justice to its job of multi-tasking.  Refer to the comparative swatches – top is Wild Rose and bottom is Nectar. Just note two things – because of the shimmer and the angle of my arm, the pigmentation and shimmer on both products looks drastically different – it isn’t.  However, I do find Nectar to have more variety and versatility in colour.

Will I Repurchase Bobbi Brown  Shimmer Brick – Nectar?

NO!!! I am not likely to finish this and if I do, I might want to try the bronzing brick or whatever new comes out in the market in 20 years time (that is approximately how long I see it to be around in my stash).

Do you really need it? Now, this is totally dependent on your personal preference. For someone who loves MAC skinfinish, this could be an alternate Holy Grail material. Like Rati commented yesterday on my review of Wild Rose, she loves shimmer and finds the Bronzing Brick to be a staple.  However, for someone like me, with oily skin and open pores, its something I use when I want a little diva-ish oomph but not part of my daily routine.

Final words – try it before you buy it! For me, Nectar has been money well spent!

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Color Balm – Mightiest Maraschino

By now, I am sure you are well aware of the revolutionary product – Clinique Chubby Stick Intense. I say revolutionary because it sure revolutionized the cosmetic industry to churn its clones at break neck speed, but have been so far unable to topple the leader from its throne. Be it the moisturization, the colour intensity, the cuteness, the value (yes, value – will come to it later), the ease of application, variety of colour choices, no wastage – this one is a winner, hands down.

Clinique+Chubby+Stick+Intense+Moisturizing+Lip+Color+Balm+Mightiest+Maraschino

The clones started being called “Lakme’s Chubby stick”, Bourjois’ Chubby stick on the blogosphere. Just like we say “Need a XEROX of this” instead of “need a photocopy of this.” And for those of us, who did not get what the difference in the 2 statements is – its simple – :xerox” is the name of a Company and not a verb!

I have earlier reviewed Grandest Grape and Heftiest Hibiscus for you. So, one fine day, I trotted back to Clinique to pick up Plushest Punch (reviewed by Maria earlier) and Mightiest Maraschino – which I review for you today!

Product Description:

Tempt lips with a soft cushion of colour that’s not quite sheer, not quite opaque-just the perfect happy medium. Loaded with mango and shea butters so lips feel comfortably soft and smooth. Eight vibrant shades in all.

How To Use:

  • Apply directly to lips.
  • For subtle definition, outline lips first, then fill in with natural-looking colour.
  • Never needs sharpening, simply swivel up to reveal more lip colour balm.

Shades Available:

Chunkiest Chilli, Curviest Caramel, Mightiest Maraschino, Grandest Grape, Plushest Punch, Broadest Berry, Roomiest Rose, Heftiest Hibiscus.

Clinique Mightiest Maraschino 2

Price:

Rs. 1025/- for 3 gm (same as the Original Chubby sticks).

Okay, so its 1K+ plus, how am I saying its value for money? Let me put this in perspective for you:

MAC lipsticks – INR 990 for 3 gm.

Lakme pop tints – INR 800 for 2 gms. Were these not supposed to be LE, I guess the stock did not get over yet!! ;)

Revlon Kissable Balm Stain – INR 600 for 2.7 gm.  This was seriously drying on my already dry lips!!

Bourjois Colour Boost Lip Crayons – INR 785. In UK, currently being sold 3 for the price of 2.

Okay, though it may seem otherwise, I am not here to bash other products. I do not own Clinique, the company; however, I just wanted to help put perspective to this product which is actually fab but considered expensive!

Packaging:

We know it by now – shaped like a “Chubby” crayon with a silver base and cap. The crayon itself is the colour of the product. With a twist up mechanism, its easy to use, no sharpening required, meaning no wasted product.  Comes in the standard Green Clinique cardboard outer box.

My Take on Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Color Balm – Mightiest Maraschino:

The colour is a vibrant bright cherry red. It’s a blue-based red, so likely to make your teeth look whiter. The product is fairly opaque in a single swipe, providing medium to full coverage – depending on the pigmentation on your lips. However, you might swipe a couple of times for building up the intensity and even coverage.

As with other colours in this range, it has a glossy finish, minus the stickiness and glides on easily like a balm with absolutely no tug or pull. The glossy shine disappears in about an hour or so.

Clinique Mightiest Maraschino 3

It should suit most skin tones – be it light or dark without looking loud or over the top. Its more like a wearable pop of red! Refer to the pics for how it looks on my NC 35 skin tone.  Without a lip liner, the product lasted about 4 hours with a small itsy-bitsy snack in between. While on, it did not feather or bleed. My lips felt hydrated but there was no stickiness or feel of lip product on. There was a little transfer though. It faded evenly and upon fading, it left a pink stain. A lip liner could easily increase the longevity but would probably beat the purpose and USP of the product!

Clinique Mightiest Maraschino 4

To sum it up for you:

Clinique - CSI - Mightiest Moraschino 2

Pros of Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Color Balm – Mightiest Maraschino:

  • Starting with the most obvious one – moisturizing while on lips.
  • Excellent pigmentation for a balm-like product.
  • The cuteness – it is a pro – love applying this – in private or public!! As long as it is kept away from my kiddos – they consider it to be an actual crayon! I shudder to think what might happen if they ever lay their hands on these!
  • Great staying power for a product in balm category.
  • Big YAY – Does not need for your lips to be prepped, exfoliated, etc., like half the products in this category.
  • Does not feather or bleed.
  • Extremely lightweight.
  • Easy application.
  • Colour would suit most skin tones.
  • Twist-up crayon, so no product wastage.
  • Sturdy and chic packaging.

Clinique - CSI - Mightiest Moraschino

Cons of Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Color Balm – Mightiest Maraschino:

  • There is a little transfer – kind of expected with this type of product.
  • Availability –available only through Clinique stores/kiosks.
  • Can melt and break – it is that soft!

IMBB Rating:

4.5/5

The fact that I went back to pick up more colours of Chubby Sticks, should tell you that I do believe that the product is good quality – because I have put my money where my mouth is! However, when it comes to the colour – Mightiest Maraschino – it is not the most unique of colours – its easily dupable. I still feel that within this range – Heftiest Hibiscus is the most unique colour and would again suit most skin tones since it’s an orangish red with a bit of pink.

Looking forward to your comments on the review and the “value” of the product. Did you pick up a Chubby Stick yet?
